Nanoplasmas Private Company (PC) is a high-tech, innovation-driven, spin-out of NCSR Demokritos, the largest multidisciplinary research center in Greece. Very recently, TESLA has decided to open an R&D department in the technological park of Demokritos, highlighting the innovation and excellence environment of the biggest research center of Greece. After more than 10 years of EU funded research and innovation protected by patents (presently transferred to Nanoplasmas from the Research center), the shareholders of Nanoplasmas have pioneered the “plasma micro-nano texturing” technology for the fabrication of novel diagnostic microchips. The company was established to commercialize excellent research results and through that to advance public health and safety. The company portfolio includes 1) The Nanoplasmas Legionella detection kit for solid or liquid samples.
2) The Nanoplasmas SARS-CoV-2 detection kit for SARS-CoV-2 detection on solid surfaces or HVAC systems.
Nanoplasmas is presently using the infrastructure of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INN) of NCSR Demokritos. Specifically, Nanoplasmas has signed a contract with INN and more specifically with the Nanotechnology and Microsystems Laboratory of INN-NCSR Demokritos, which is basically a clean room facility.
The research team is working in the field of surface modification using plasma discharges, for hydrophilicity, superhydrophobicityand biomolecule and cell interactions since 2006. Besides scientific publications the team has registered several patents. In 2013 it received the 2nd award of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) and Eurobank Contest (Greece Innovates contest)
for its work. Assisted by SEV the team got official permission from NCSR Demokritos in March 2016 to launch a spin-out company.
